Dr. Christian J. Rivera Carrero graduated with honors from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He continued his academic excellence by earning his Doctorate in Medicine from the US national Medical School, San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, where he graduated with Honors Cum Laude and was awarded for his outstanding academic performance and care in psychiatry service. Dr. Rivera Carrero completed a post-doctorate medical internship in Medicine at Hospital Buen Samaritano and Hospital San Carlos in Puerto Rico, where he focused on primary and emergency medicine. He then pursued his psychiatry residency at the Saint Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C. which is known for its historical legacy in the field of psychiatry. During his residency, he gained extensive training at institutions such as Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Johns Hopkins Hospital at Sibley Memorial Hospital among other hospitals. His exceptional skills and leadership qualities led to his selection as Chief Resident.

Throughout his residency, Dr. Rivera Carrero trained in a variety of environments, including the VA Hospital and Saint Elizabeths Hospital which is one of the largest forensic psychiatric institutions in the nation. This diverse training equipped him with the ability to handle a wide range of psychiatric cases. Professionally, he has worked as a Medical Officer and Attending Psychiatry Physician at the DC Department of Behavioral Health’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program, where he combine his emergency training with psychiatric care. Dr. Rivera Carrero has served as the Lead Attending Psychiatrist at Center Place Health in Sarasota, Florida, where he oversees outpatient Behavioral Health Services. Dr. Rivera Carrero has extensive experience with patients of all ages, including children, adolescents, women throughout pregnancy and postpartum, as well as geriatric population. His bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish allows him to effectively communicate with a diverse patient population. Dr. Rivera Carrero’s dedication to his field and his diverse experiences make him a compassionate and skilled psychiatrist, committed to providing exceptional care to his patients. Outside of his professional achievements, Dr. Rivera Carrero has been a distinguished skateboarder in Puerto Rico. He enjoys an active lifestyle, participating in surfing, biking, and other outdoor activities.
